Song Exploder
2018
This university project was based on the concept of Song Exploder, the well‑known series where musicians break down their tracks and reveal how each layer of a song is created. The assignment was to choose a subject and develop a complete branding and motion‑graphics identity around it. I selected Song Exploder because of its deep connection to musical structure, creativity, and the process of building a track from the ground up.
Design and Concept Development
Inspired by the geometric shape of the original logo, I designed a visual system centered around a textured box. The texture is built from musical elements — waveforms, rhythm patterns, and frequency‑based shapes — echoing the visual language of sound. The box becomes a metaphor for the birth of a musical idea.
The core concept reflects how music is created: every composition begins with one instrument, one idea, one spark. From there, additional layers are added — harmony, rhythm, effects, and structure. To express this visually, I animated a sequence where a single box enters the frame, representing the first musical idea. More boxes then appear, interact, and build upon each other, symbolizing the layering, mixing, and refining process that happens in real music production.
All 3D elements were modeled and animated in Cinema 4D, giving the project a clean, modern, and tactile visual style. I then brought everything into Adobe After Effects for compositing, color work, timing, and final visual refinement.
To complete the identity, I also composed the original music for the intro. The soundtrack mirrors the visual concept: it begins with a single instrument and gradually builds into a fuller arrangement, matching the motion and reinforcing the theme of musical construction.
